Strike Out Bullying: A Night of Community, Competition, and Charity

Gathered under the vibrant neon lights of the FSU Bowling & Billiards venue, families, community partners, and various agencies came together for a memorable evening curated by the DJ Demp Foundation. With a mission rooted in unity and inclusion, the foundation orchestrated an event that blended fun and philanthropy, uniting attendees in the fight against bullying.

DJ DEMP celebrating with attendees

“As a foundation, we wanted to put together something fun and exciting where families, community partners, and various agencies could come together and enjoy themselves for a great cause,” said DJ DEMP, CEO of the DJ Demp Foundation.

The atmosphere was electric as attendees laced up their bowling shoes and prepared to hit the lanes. The Tallahassee Fire Department and Police Department brought their A-game, engaging in a friendly yet spirited competition that had everyone on the edge of their seats. Mr. Branden Colaire of the TFD team proved to be a force to be reckoned with, claiming the title of Top Bowler with an impressive score of over 250 points in a single game. Meanwhile, AJ Rainey showcased his billiards prowess, dominating the pool tables and earning the title of Top Billiard Pool Shark.

With the event selling out weeks in advance, it was clear that the community had rallied behind the cause. Notable attendees and lane sponsors included the City of Tallahassee Fire Department, City of Tallahassee Police Department, Akbar Thomas Law Firm, Courtyard by Marriott Downtown, Kalivia’s Angelic Hands, Big Bend Cares, House of Vibes, Winner Circle, New Era HotBoys, and several other esteemed individuals and organizations.

The mission behind organizing the bowling event was simple yet powerful: to foster community engagement, build relationships, and raise awareness about the issue of bullying. By bringing together law enforcement, fire fighters, and various organizations in a relaxed and social setting, the DJ Demp Foundation aimed to showcase the commonalities that unite us all while promoting unity and inclusion.

The evening was filled with unique activities and features, including cosmic bowling complete with neon lights and a vibrant music playlist that set the perfect backdrop for the festivities. The theme of “strike out bullying” permeated the event, reinforcing the importance of standing together against bullying in all its forms.

Beyond the fun and games, the bowling event also served as a platform to raise funds for the DJ Demp Foundation’s upcoming back-to-school supply giveaway. With the support of the community, the foundation will be providing 1000 backpacks and supplies to students in need, ensuring that they have everything they need to start the school year strong and focused.

As the last pins fell and the night came to a close, it was clear that the bowling event had achieved its goals of fostering community engagement, building relationships, and raising awareness for the DJ Demp Foundation’s cause. With hearts full and spirits lifted, attendees left with a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to making a positive impact in their community.

Hey there, music lovers! We’re still buzzing with excitement from the unforgettable vibes of the 7th Annual Field Day Music Festival at Maclay Garden State Park in Tallahassee, FL!  This year, the festival wasn’t just about grooving to great tunes – it was a heartfelt gathering curated to raise funds for pancreatic cancer, with every beat and melody aimed at making a difference. 💜

The lineup was nothing short of spectacular, featuring an eclectic mix of talent from across the country. From the bluegrass sounds of The Lil Smokies hailing from Montana to the soulful melodies of Sugarcane Jane representing Alabama, and the hometown heroes, Revival, from right here in Tallahassee, each band brought their unique flavor to the stage, captivating audiences and spreading joy through music.

But the magic of Field Day went beyond the music – it was a true celebration of community, love, and compassion. As attendees soaked up the sunshine and tunes, they were surrounded by the warm embrace of great company, smiles, and laughter. From delicious food and cold beers to fun games and activities, there was something for everyone to enjoy, making every moment feel like a cherished memory in the making.

At the heart of it all were the incredible founders, Katie (left) and Stacy (far left), whose passion and dedication shone through every aspect of the festival. But what truly made Field Day feel like family was the army of volunteers of all ages who rallied together to ensure that every attendee had the time of their lives. Their hard work and selflessness were the true driving force behind the festival’s success, reminding us all of the power of community and kindness.

Of course, our creat.ive team couldn’t resist getting in on the action, capturing every moment of joy and camaraderie with our trusty cameras. From candid snapshots to epic group shots, we’ve got all the memories preserved for posterity – and we can’t wait to share them with you! Stay tuned for some epic images and videos that truly capture the spirit of Field Day.

But perhaps the most touching aspect of the festival was the “Garden of Angels”, a serene space where attendees could pause and reflect, honoring loved ones affected by pancreatic cancer. 🕊️ With pens in hand, they wrote heartfelt messages of thanks, prayers, and wisdom, creat.ing a beautiful tapestry of love and support that touched the hearts of all who visited.

As we look back on the magic of the 7th Annual Field Day Music Festival, we’re filled with gratitude for everyone who made it possible – from the organizers and volunteers to the performers and attendees. Together, we raised funds, raised spirits, and raised our voices in solidarity against pancreatic cancer. Until next year, let’s keep spreading love, music, and hope wherever we go! #FieldDayFam  #PancreaticCancerAwareness

COCA Celebrates Black History Through Art & Culture: A Festival to Remember

Hey there, Creat.ors fam!

We’re still buzzing with excitement from the electrifying vibes of the 3rd Annual Black History Art & Culture Festival! Presented by the Florida Division of Arts and Culture and Division of Historical Resources alongside our amazing partners at COCA (Council on Culture & Arts), this event was a true celebration of diversity, inclusion, and the vibrant arts scene that makes our community so special.

From the moment you stepped foot inside the building, you were greeted with the rich tapestry of talent and creat.ivity that celebrates Black culture. The beats of Ayoka Afrikan Drum and Dance filled the air, reminding us of the power and beauty of rhythm and movement. Their words of encouragement to “continue celebrating the arts” resonated deeply with us and with all who were fortunate enough to witness their performance.

We were truly honored to partner with COCA for this incredible event. Their dedication to supporting local artists and fostering a sense of belonging within the arts community is truly inspiring. As attendees and community partners, we’ve experienced firsthand the warmth and support they offer, and we’re incredibly grateful to be a part of the COCA family.

And let’s talk about the vendors! From local and state organizations to talented designers, painters, dancers, models, and bakers, the festival was a treasure trove of creat.ivity and entrepreneurship. Each booth was a testament to the richness and diversity of Black artistry, showcasing everything from stunning visual art to delicious culinary delights.

One highlight of the event was the tour learning about the Florida Highway Men, a group of African American artists who defied the odds to creat.e breathtaking landscapes that capture the beauty of our state. Their story serves as a reminder of the resilience and creat.ivity of Black artists throughout history, and we were honored to pay tribute to their legacy at the festival.

As we reflect on the magic of the Black History Art & Culture Festival, we’re filled with gratitude for all who made it possible. To COCA, our incredible partners, thank you for your unwavering support and for welcoming our team with open arms. Together, we’ll continue to celebrate the arts, uplift Black voices, and creat.e a more vibrant and inclusive community for all.

In a vibrant display of local talent and community spirit, recently married artists Cosby and Sarah Painter Hayes, collectively known as “Painter Hayes,” opened their hearts and art to the public at the “Pop-Up at the Co-Op” event. Held at the Community CoopMarket, this unique gathering showcased the couple’s artistic endeavors, inviting the community to explore and connect with their creat.ions.

Visitors flocked to the event, immersing themselves in the captivating world of Painter Hayes. Each piece of art served as a conversation starter, allowing attendees to share personal stories of resonance with the artists. The exchange of enthusiasm and appreciation between visitors and the creat.ive duo creat.ed an atmosphere of shared connection and inspiration.

What made this event even more heartwarming was that Sarah Painter Hayes chose to celebrate her 30th birthday by hosting the gathering. Embracing her passion for art, she welcomed the community to join in the celebration of both her milestone birthday and the artistic journey she shares with her husband.

Surprisingly, many attendees had never set foot in the Community CoopMarket before, but the event served as a compelling introduction. The love and support shown for the local creat.ive community during “Pop-Up at the Co-Op” encouraged visitors to explore the CoopMarket further, fostering a newfound connection between the community and the market.

Notable among the attendees was President RJ and his two sons, who not only expressed their genuine interest in supporting the artists but also encouraged them to expand their reach through online platforms. Subsequently, RJ and his sons subscribed to the couple’s YouTube channel, showing a commitment to fostering and promoting local artistic endeavors.

As Painter Hayes embarks on their journey to reach a goal of 50 subscribers this month on YouTube, the artists extend their gratitude to everyone who attended “Pop-Up at the Co-Op.” They invite others to join them on their creat.ive journey, urging the community to follow their adventures on YouTube. In doing so, they aim to creat.e a broader platform for local artists while fostering a sense of unity and appreciation within the community.
